New Mexico’s farmers are the second oldest in the Nation, with an average age of 60 years. The National Young Farmers Coalition aims to change that and worked to pass the Agricultural Workforce Development Bill in spring 2019. The new program offers incentives to agricultural producers to hire interns and provides hands-on learning for those seeking careers in agriculture, as well as young or beginning farmers and ranchers.
NM Department of Agriculture is now accepting applications on a rolling basis.
The application process is simple and applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until February 28, 2020 (or until funding is exhausted). Limited to a maximum of $5,000 per internship, there are a total of 19 internships available this fiscal year. Get your applications in ASAP to take advantage of this exciting opportunity!
