Come learn about and support a multifaceted approach to post-fire restoration at Trout Springs Ranch in Galinas Canyon. After devastating forest fires, there’s a great need for erosion mitigation and revegetation in the area. Field Day hosts Charlie Paynter and Chris Schaum are exploring holistic approaches that focus on soil care for ecosystem resilience.

This Field Day will take place right by the Galinas Creek where we will be planting willows for streambank stabilization and transplanting conifers to revegetate the mountainside above the stream. We will take a look at the soil under a microscope and inoculate seedlings with beneficial soil organisms from compost extract. Contour felling of dead trees and strategic moving of already downed wood for erosion mitigation will also be part of the day’s work.

Bonus: In between lending a hand in post-disaster regeneration you can splash in the creek! Delicious lunch will be provided.

This Field Day is presented by NM Healthy Soil Working Group in partnership with the United World College.
